Muscovy duck

Muscovy ducks don’t live in a fixed partnership.

It is a a tame and clumsy decendant from the so-called Turkish duck (“Türkenente”). The name Turkish duck or catfish duck goes back to a misunderstanding. In Old High German, the word welsch only meant foreign or foreign. After the Turkish wars in the 16th century, however, the term Welsh merged more and more with the word Turkish. Both were used as synonyms, because the Turks seemed so welsch (foreign) to the native ones at that time.

The name Turkish duck does not mean that the duck was imported from Turkey, but only that it is a foreign duck.

The wild musk duck is predominantly black with a strong green sheen, which shows additional purple shimmer and white upper arm covers.
