Puma concolor

The cougar, also known as the puma or mountain lion, is one of the most athletic cats in the Americas. Thanks to its exceptional adaptability, it inhabits environments ranging from deserts and forests to high mountains. Although it is one of the largest cats in the world, it zoologically classified within the lineage of small cats (Felinae). Unlike the big cats of the genus Panthera, it cannot roar, but it is capable of purring.

With its powerful hind legs, a cougar can leap up to 6 metres vertically and 12 metres horizontally. Its long tail serves as a balancing aid, making it an exceptional climber alongside its sharp claws. Cougars are solitary animals that roam vast territories, and males do not tolerate rival males within their home range.
