This majestic gallinaceous bird originates from India. The peacock is famous for the male’s dazzling train, which can be up to one and a half metres long. During courtship, he fans this out into a magnificent wheel, a signal to females that reveals good health and strong genes. In the evening, the birds fly up into tall roosting trees to protect themselves from predators. Blue peacocks are typical omnivores and are by no means picky. They scratch the ground for seeds, berries, fruits, and insects. In their native region, they even prey on venomous snakes, including cobras, which is why they are highly valued as welcome neighbors.
