The Eurasian eagle-owl is the largest owl species in Europe. With a wingspan of up to 1.8 metres and its powerful build, it is one of the top predators in its habitat. Its mottled brown and beige plumage provides excellent camouflage.

The distinctive ear tufts are not used for hearing, but help communicate the bird’s mood and intentions. Eurasian eagle-owls inhabit a wide variety of habitats, from forests and rocky cliffs to quarries. They are highly territorial and often return to the same nesting site for many years. Their varied diet ranges from mice, rats and hedgehogs to larger birds such as crows and even other owls.
