Rainbow Trout

The rainbow trout is native to North America and has been introduced into suitable waters around the world. It owes its name from the shimmering pink stripe along its sides, while its back and fins are covered with distinctive dark spots. It is adaptable, grows quickly, and prefers clear, cool rivers and lakes. Rainbow trout are active predators that feed on insects, crustaceans and small fish. In spring, they migrate to shallow areas with gravel beds to spawn. Due to its robustness, it is now one of the most commonly kept trout species in ponds and fisheries.
