Mute swan

Cygnus olor

The keeping and breeding of hump-swans was the privilege of emperors and kings until the 19th century. It was not until the 20th century that the animals were increasingly kept in parks and zoos.

Mute swans have an extensive and variable vocal repertoire.

The Mute Swan is the largest native water bird in Central Europe and is one of the heaviest flightless birds in the world.
