Budgerigar

Melopsittacus undulatus

The origin of the budgies was in Australia. In the middle of the 19th century, budgies were introduced to England for the first time. In 1850 the bird became known throughout Europe through a bird exhibition in Antwerp. This was followed by large wild catches, which were imported to Europe and the first breeding successes were achieved. The Australian government issued an export ban in 1884, which is still valid today.
