Lama glama

The Llama is descended from the guanaco and is the largest camelid in South America. For thousands of years, it has been an indispensable companion to humans. As a sure-footed pack animal, it carries heavy loads along narrow mountain trails while also providing fibre, meat and manure.

Llama herds have a clear social hierarchy, usually led by an experienced female. Males, on the other hand, are responsible for defending the group against external threats. Despite occasional fights over rank, llamas are generally peaceful animals.

Llamas are true survivors of the high mountains. They are perfectly adapted to the harsh climate, sparse food and thin air of the Andes.
