Blackheaded Somali Sheep

Ovis aries

A domestic sheep, which comes from the wild sheep and belongs to the race group of the hair sheep. They have a short coat and the hair changes regularly in spring and autumn. They are milk and meat suppliers.

Other designations: Fat-tailed sheep, Berbera Blackhead, Somalia Sheep.

All names apply to this animal. They belong, like the Cameroon, to the African domestic animal breeds.
Sheep and goats are man’s oldest livestock. They were domesticated in the Middle East 9000 years ago. Fat-tailed sheeps are steppe and semi-desert inhabitants with a fat-reserve. The fat accumulation forms in the tail or around the tail base. The fat retention serves as a reservoir for the dry season.
